How to Have a Stress Free Christmas

How about you make this year a stress-free Christmas? One where you can relax with your loved ones and not have to worry about getting 1001 things completed? It certainly sounds great to me and in fact, that’s exactly what Nugget, I and the rest of our family will be doing! Let me share with you just how we’re going to do that…

Miss Lilly’s Tips On Having a Stress Free Christmas (h2)

As with many things, planning is key when it comes to having an event run smoothly. In the catering business, I need to plan and organise my menus, ingredients, cooking time, travelling distances and dates to ensure my clients receive the very best I can offer. It’s the same at Christmas time. I start planning early, decide on what’s going to happen when and where, then delegate tasks off. By not sweating the small stuff, it’s amazing how much better I feel too. Here are just a few of the things I do each year to enjoy a stress-free Christmas with my family and friends:

·         Focus on what’s important – how can you go wrong with good food and great company? You can’t and that’s why I don’t worry about all the little things – they’ll look after themselves.

·         Keep a list – lists are great for helping me keep track of what’s happening and what I need to do. You can have a list on who’s cooking what for Christmas dinner, what gifts you need to purchase and the acts of kindness you and your family are planning on doing. A countdown list is also helpful, stating in which order jobs need to be done and who will do them.

·         Do what works for your family – it’s okay to do the things your family wants to do, even if they’re different from ‘the norm.’ You’d rather have a picnic at the park than cook a turkey? Awesome! Your family want to decorate the garden rather than a tree indoors? Then go for it! There is no right or wrong thing to do at Christmas, but rather what’s right for your family.

·         Keep your expectations clear for everyone – let your family and friends know what your expectations are. Ensure they are reasonable and realistic.
